What do you see?

In life, many times, it is hard to look beyond the surface of things to see what is really happening.  It could be we just don’t have the information required to fully understand what is transpiring, or unfortunately, too many times we are too busy to take the time to really look.  Life can be so hectic and frantic and crazy . . . schedules are packed and we are running from one thing to the next.  How do we even begin to take the time to smell the roses?  To look beyond the surface?  For me personally, I go to Soccer Sundays with Toledo TOPSoccer.  Don’t get me wrong, Soccer Sundays are hectic, frantic, and crazy!  But because this program has become a part of my routine, I also get to take the time to see something more.  Like this . . .

Just a couple of guys playing soccer, right?  Well, yes, they are, but there is so much more.  For the first time at TOPSoccer, this kiddo has made a real connection!  He has found someone with whom he has a commonality, a peer!  Where he used to be all over the place, now he is more focused and (I hope) starting to enjoy the game of soccer and more importantly enjoying friendship with his Teammate.

How about this . . .

Just another soccer picture?  No!  I actually got to witness this fantastic kid dribble the ball most of the way down the field without having to be constantly directed.  He was doing it on his own . . . for the first time!  Sorry about the blurry picture, but he caught me by surprise!

And this guy?

When Larry first started coming to TOPSoccer, he was so quiet and showed no emotion, which is something his Mom said is normal for him.  This week, he was smiling, laughing and talking to his Teammate and me!  No more Mr. Quiet!  Larry’s Mom recently email me to say thank you and said “Larry who has never had a chance to play soccer, except with his brothers!”

There are so many stories like this that I could share, but I have a better idea . . . how about you come out and see for yourself.  We are always welcoming new participants and teammates and would love to have you join us.  Here are the remaining 2017 dates:

All Soccer Sundays are at the Maumee Soccer Center from 2:00-3:00 pm.  We hope to see you there!
